If you’ve been following Mark McCann’s incredible Bugatti Veyron saga, you’ll know this isn’t just another hypercar story. This is a tale of persistence, problem-solving and refusing to give up on what many people thought was a lost cause.
Now, after months of gearbox drama, specialist engineering work and more than a few sleepless nights, Mark’s famous Bugatti Veyron is finally moving under its own power once again.
And the best part? He’s planning to bring it to TRAX 2026 at Silverstone on August 16 where you can see it in person!

The Million-Pound Project Nobody Thought Would Work
When Mark first bought his Bugatti Veyron project, plenty of people questioned whether it would ever return to the road.
After all, this wasn’t simply a used hypercar with a few faults. The car arrived effectively in pieces, with a failed gearbox, clutch issues and a long list of unknowns hanging over the project.
Even Mark admits many people thought the Veyron would never drive again.
Considering the complexity of a Bugatti Veyron, it’s easy to understand why.
Powered by a quad-turbocharged W16 engine producing over 1,000bhp and packed with engineering that was decades ahead of its time, the Veyron remains one of the most technically ambitious road cars ever built.
Fixing one is difficult.
Fixing one when replacement parts are scarce and manufacturer support is limited? That’s another challenge entirely.

Why This Veyron Is So Special
The car itself is no ordinary Veyron.
This particular example is a Mansory-modified Bugatti Veyron showing fewer than 8,000 miles on the clock. Despite its mechanical issues, it also carried something incredibly important: a clean history.
As Mark explains in the video, one of the first things he did after buying the car was investigate its background.
When you’re spending serious money on a performance car—whether it’s a Bugatti Veyron, Porsche 911 GT3 or classic Ford Cosworth—understanding its history is essential.

Six Months Of Gearbox Headaches
The biggest obstacle standing between Mark and his first drive was the Veyron’s gearbox.
The transmission had already spent years moving between various specialists before eventually ending up in the hands of experts capable of reverse-engineering parts that Bugatti no longer supplied.
That alone tells you how complicated this project became.
The gearbox rebuild involved specialist knowledge, custom-manufactured clutch components and countless hours of testing before it could finally be reunited with the car.
Even then, there were no guarantees.
A leaking seal threatened to derail progress. Tiny traces of contamination in the hydraulic system could have destroyed months of work. Missing Bugatti-specific components created further headaches.
At one point, the team even discovered that obtaining something as simple as a replacement nut or bolt wasn’t straightforward.
The project became a perfect example of why restoring modern hypercars can sometimes be even more challenging than restoring classics.

The Dream Team Behind The Build
One of the most fascinating aspects of the project is the network of specialists involved.
Mark regularly credits the engineers, restorers and transmission experts who helped save the Veyron, including the team at Furlonger Specialist Cars.
Their expertise proved invaluable.
From manufacturing replacement components to cleaning and testing complex hydraulic systems, every stage of the process required extraordinary attention to detail.
It’s easy to forget that this isn’t just a fast car.
It’s one of the most sophisticated production vehicles ever built.
The Veyron features ten radiators, advanced dual-clutch transmission technology and countless bespoke components that simply aren’t available on a shelf.
That’s what makes the achievement so impressive.

How carVertical Helped Verify The Veyron’s History
One of the most interesting moments in the video comes when Mark discusses the Veyron’s vehicle history.
Despite the car’s mechanical challenges, the report revealed no evidence of accident damage, theft history or outstanding finance concerns.
For buyers considering any used performance car, that’s exactly the kind of information that can make or break a purchase decision.
Vehicle history checks are particularly valuable when buying:
- Performance cars
- Imported vehicles
- Collector cars
- Modified cars
- High-value supercars
- Auction purchases
Even minor discrepancies can have a major impact on future value and ownership costs.

The Moment Everything Changed
After months of setbacks, there was finally one question left to answer.
Would the Veyron move?
The tension throughout the final stages of the build is obvious.
The gearbox had been rebuilt. The fluids were filled. The hydraulics were functioning. The engine fired into life.
But would it select gears?
First gear engaged.
The Veyron rolled forward.
Then came the real test.
Reverse.
The issue that had effectively sidelined the car for years.
As the rebuilt transmission selected reverse and the car moved backwards under its own power, the reaction from everyone involved said it all.
Months of uncertainty instantly became worth it.
The Veyron was back.
