The Hyundai Veloster N will be discontinued in the US this year to make way for N variants of sedans/saloons and compact crossovers.
Sadly, the Hyundai Veloster N was never available for us over here in the UK, but soon it will be removed from Hyundai’s North American model lineup in favour of creating more N variants of bigger sedans and saloons, as well as compact crossovers and even SUVs.
It comes as no surprise as Hyundai began removing the Veloster in non-N trim last year, and has since also introduced new N cars in the form of the Elantra N sedan and Kona N (we also get this one here in the UK).
Powering the Hyundai Veloster N is a 2.0-litre T-GDI engine, the same engine we get in the i30 N here in the UK. Like the i30 N, you can either have 250hp in the standard trim Veloster N or 275hp and 260lb-ft of torque if you equip the performance package. You only get a choice of a 6-speed manual in the standard trim, while performance pack owners have the choice of a manual gearbox or 8-speed N Dual Clutch Transmission gearbox for faster gear changes. Similar to the i30 N, the Veloster N drives the front wheels via an electronic limited slip differential and you also get a bunch of customisable drive modes for whatever driving scenario.
Performance wise, the quickest car is the performance pack-equipped Veloster N with the N-DCT, which will get from 0-62mph in 5.6 seconds. The manual equivalent does it in half a second slower at 6.1 seconds.
Despite being a well-respected hot hatch, the likes of Road and Track voted it as its Performance Car of the Year in 2020, Hyundai’s focus is on larger vehicles, a trend that has seen the demise of a number of models from manufacturers lineups.
