As our roads become more and more crowded, the UK’s Petrolhead community are attending organised trackdays more and more often in a bid to put their performance or modified cars through their paces. UK race tracks are full to bursting with organised days where you can enjoy the freedom of no speed limits, no on-coming traffic and no road ‘furniture’ to crash into. Having said that, there is a huge risk in taking your car on track and having a collision. A lot of people forget this, and it can end in tears.
If you are taking your pride and joy on a trackday, you would be mad not to consider getting trackday insurance before hand. Not many people can afford to crash their car at a trackday and then pay to get it recovered from the track, have it repaired or even pay to replace it. It is very unlikely that your road insurance cover will provide cover if you do have a crash. Race track owners, event organisers and insurers are more than wise to the old ‘push it down the road and then call your insurer’ chestnut!
It is best not to hope that you will not have a crash on track and it is wise to investigate trackday insurance cover. Some insurers may offer trackday cover with your road policy but be careful with this, often you will find track exclusions, high excess but also, a claim on track may well effect your road cover and no claims bonus.
