After a month of voting, Simon’s modified Vauxhall Astra VXR was voted by you as the UK’s Top Tuned Car.

A modified Vauxhall Astra VXR has been named the UK’s Top Tuned Car in a competition organised by Autosport International and the Performance and Tuning Car Show. The show’s organisers have been on the hunt for Britain’s best modified car and the judging panel and public have selected the winning modified Vauxhall Astra VXR owned by Simon Kelly.

The Astra and the two runner-up cars can be viewed live at the Fast Car stand at the Performance and Tuning Car Show, part of Autosport International in Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre (NEC) this Saturday and Sunday (14-15 January). Show goers will have a chance to chat with the owners to discuss the builds.

Simon’s car competed against dozens of others that have taken part in the competition. Out of many entries, the judging panel consisting of experts and editors from Autosport International and Fast Car revealed the Top 10 modified cars that stood against each other in the public voting. After a month and over 1,000 votes collected, the Top 3 winners are Simon’s Vauxhall Astra VXR, Andy Devine’s Ford Escort Mexico Mk2 (@the_mexorcist) and Sam Wells’ Ford Focus ST Mk4 (@s.wells99).

While all three cars are currently featured at the show at the NEC, there can only be one winner. Simon’s Astra VXR has gained the most votes (254) and outrun the competitors by a significant margin. The passionate followers of Simon’s social media channels (@skellyvxr) supported him in the head-to-head run towards the prestigious title, concluding with a great win and a prominent spot at the show.

Simon commented: “I’ve decided to modify my Astra VXR into a race car-like sports car. I’ve modified it in many ways, including full wrap; rear spoiler; side exit exhaust; air suspension; entirely stripped with roll cage to name a few.” All modifications created a 400+ bhp machine. Having made many upgrades both to the car’s chassis, as well as under the bonnet, he’s now the owner of a unique motorsport-inspired Astra many would love to have.

Ben Whibley, Autosport International Event Director, said: “We’re excited to announce that the modified Vauxhall Astra VXR, owned by Simon Kelly, has won the voting contest in our Top Tuned Car campaign. The competition is a celebration of the growth of the tuning industry in the last two decades as well as a great opportunity for drivers to explore the world of car modification and customization. We’re pleased to show the three top-voted machines at Autosport International, where tuning fans can see the cars for themselves.”

Phil Weeden, Fast Car publisher, added “It’s been a great journey to search for the UK’s Top Tuned Car together with Autosport International. At Fast Car, we celebrate the modified cars culture every day, and being able to connect with fans at the largest European motorsport exhibition is a great moment for us.”
