Mazda has revealed the new, updated Mazda MX-5 Miata for 2024 at Japan Mobility Show, which sees subtle exterior design changes for the first time since the Mk4 model was launched in 2015.

The Mazda MX-5 Miata is a sports car icon no matter where you are in the world. It’s poised driving position, small dimensions and a zippy motor up front sending power to the rear wheels makes for a brilliant driver’s car and still one of the best used cars, or new, you can get your hands on.

Truth be told, there was nothing glaringly wrong with the pre-facelift Mazda MX-5, so these subtle changes are welcomed as niceties. Dynamically, the Mazda MX-5 has always been fantastic to drive, and thankfully, nothing drastic has changed there either, just small updates that should refine the car’s characteristics further. There are still two engines on offer, a 1.5-liter and a 2.0-liter. Like before, the 2.0-liter cars equipped with a manual gearbox get a front strut brace, limited slip differential and Bilstein dampers as standard.

Interestingly, Mazda has introduced a new limited slip differential for the 2024 MX-5 Miata. This is aimed at improving stability and driving performance by using an additional cam mechanism.

A new track setting has been added to the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) system. This allows for more slip before the stability control takes over. The electric power steering steering has also been revised for improved feel for the driver.

What else is new?

For the first time since the Mk4-generation (ND) Mazda MX-5 was launched in 2015/2016, the model has received its first exterior design change. It’s subtle, so don’t expect anything drastically different here.

The new 2024 model gets a new LED headlight design that incorporates daytime running lights, as well as redesigned rear LED lights. Inside, again, changes are subtle. You get a new, larger 8.8-inch touch-screen infotainment system which includes wireless Apple CarPlay, and a frameless rearview mirror. We said it was subtle…

When will the 2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata be on sale?

There’s no word on when the new MX-5 Miata will arrive in the US, however, it is expected to hit showrooms in the UK in March, 2024. Sadly, there’s also no word on pricing just yet in either markets. However, we’ll continue to update this page with more information as and when it’s announced.
