Time to add a few more stylish accents to our project Scoob this month as we hit yet another top dealership and crack open another box of top quality accessories. This month – the Pro-R grille set!!
Blame it on this lush weather we’ve been having, but when Jules told us he had planned a sunny day out in the Project STi, along with some hot grille action, we all pretty much assumed it involved driving to some sort of barbeque. Needless to say, Midge was first to dip his mucky paw in the pot of team car keys and offer to do the honours. It’s much the same when we have our office swinging party (right, you’re sacked! – Jules).
So, imagine the look on his little face when he arrived at Culverwells Subaru in East Sussex then, only to find that lunch wasn’t on the cards! Mind you, what he found instead more than made up for it. There’s only one thing Midge loves more than free food, and that’s a pile of tasty parts to get his teeth into. Well, not literally, but you know what I mean…
The Pro-R grille kits have been tailor made by scene legends Zunsport and feature the finest weaponsgrade stainless steel construction that er, weapons are made of. Or something. Seriously though, the quality of these bad boys is simply immense. The welding is sublime and the finish just perfect.
You can order them in either polished stainless steel, for those that like to shine, or for those that don’t, or indeed, those looking to contrast with a lairy orange wrap, there’s classic ‘Piano Black’. Don’t go thinking that this is just any old average paint finish either. This is a very clever polymer coating that has a ‘memory’ to allow it to shrink back to cover any stone chips it might get. How cool is that? The grilles fit over the slightly plain factory offerings and look much nicer in the process, adding a little extra aggression to the many vents on the Scoob.
Being a genuine Subaru accessory, the Pro-R grille kit comes with all clips and fittings, so despite the fact that Midge insisted on helping, even this hindrance couldn’t slow Culverwell’s talented workshop team down – meaning that before we’d had chance to look at their impressive used car stock, we were ready to hit the road. The Culverwells team have been selling and servicing Scoobs since they were farmer’s pick-ups in the ‘80s, so there’s nothing they don’t know. Hit ‘em up if you’re anywhere near.
Now if only everything could be made to look as nice with the careful application of a smart black mesh over its mush. Now, there’s a thought… we should have asked them to fit one to Midge at the same time…
