We take a look at how to detail your car’s finishing touches. The tyres, trim and everything else you didn’t think of…
The main stages of car care have been drilled into us, from applying snow foam to the contact wash, but all too often we overlook the details that amplify those previously applied stages. Why have gleaming wheels if your tyres are dull and dirty? Your paintwork might be pristine but what about the tatty trim that frames it? Take a look at how to detail you car’s finishing touches below, as well as four products that will enhance your hard work and make your car pop.
M1 All Metal Polish
Come on be honest, when was the last time you gave your exhaust tip a good going over? It’s one of those details that’s often over-looked because you might think your rear can is too far gone with burnt on dirt and soot, but we’d urge you to crack open a bottle of All Metal Polish and get to work bringing it back to life. The results speak for themselves, just watch the video if you don’t believe us. The exhaust tip on our BMW test car went from dull to dazzling, in a matter of minutes 4-years’ worth of build-up was removed and replaced by a stunning crystal-clear finish.
Of course, as the name suggests, M1 works on all types of metal, so it’s not just your exhaust that can benefit but brass, copper, aluminium, stainless steel, chrome, silver and many more types of metal trim.
Durable Tyre Gel
We all take pride in cleaning our precious alloys, giving them the full decon wash with a dedicated wheel cleaner and then drying and polishing them to an inch of their life, but you know what makes them really pop? A nice, clean and black tyre. It’s baffling to think you’d spend all that time making your wheels spotless not to spend another 30-seconds applying some Durable Tyre Gel from GTECHNIQ. We recommend this stuff for the simplicity of its application, the finish and the non-sling formula. That basically means you won’t leave half of it splattered-up the side of your car when you go for a drive. The bonus of Durable Tyre Gel is that it doesn’t just clean it protects, as it’s dirt and water repellent!
G5 Water Repellent Coating
While we are talking about water repellency, we thought we’d mention G5. It’s not necessarily a finishing detail but cleaning your glass is, but the problem with glass cleaning is that it can be quite time consuming, so our advice would be to get your glass sparkling with GTECHNIQS Nanotech Glass Polish and G6 Perfect Class and then apply some Water Repellent Coating. Why? Because your G5 coated glass will stay cleaner for longer thanks to its highly hydrophobic formula that helps keep contaminates at bay! Its extreme water repellency beads water beautifully making driving in the rain much safer.
C4 Permanent Trim Restorer
Over time plastic trim fades and while there are a bunch of ‘back to black’ products on the market that promise to revive your trim, they just don’t stand the test of time. This can be massively frustrating if you’re running a car with big plastic bumpers, like a Mk2 Golf or a new MINI as it’ll ruin the overall effect of your detailing endeavours. But fear not, that’s the exact problem the guys with white coats at GTECHNIQ wanted to overcome, and their C4 Permanent Trim Restorer is the solution. The technical jargon states that “C4 utilises a chemical bond to become an extension of the plastic molecule it is protecting. The coating swaps part of its molecular structure with the surface molecules of your car’s trim”. Basically, this means that your trim will be revived and have a protective coating of awesome durability.
