All of the blown 2-litre variants of the Mk7 Golf – from the Performance Pack and Clubsport cars, right up to the Golf R – are all pretty damn tasty on the power front, so it’s no wonder that they make fine track cars.

You know what they say though; hardcore cars need hardcore brakes, so that’s why these new discs from EBC Brakes Racing could be a godsend.

They’re not messing about with these, offering direct-fit 340mm jobs that use a proper motorsport-style ‘floating rotor’ setup. The idea is that the friction surface literally hovers on eight stainless steel bobbins, over a lightweight all-aluminium hub (which itself saves nearly 3kg per pair).

They also tend to transfer far less heat to the hubs and wheels than standard single-piece discs.
