Over the years countless megabucks motors have got car fans dribbling, even with a set of rear clusters from a slightly cheaper motor in place.
We reckon it’s time to shame the skinflint manufacturers, or be proud that a not so revered car contributed to a work of automotive art.
But, can you guess where these rear clusters came from?
Q. What rear lights does the JAGUAR XJ220 have?
A. ROVER 200
Before the McLaren F1 came about the 542bhp Jaguar XJ220 was the quickest car in the world, even if it did hide shitty old Rover lenses behind that rear grille.
Q. What rear lights does the ASTON MARTIN DB7 have?
A. MAZDA 323
The boys at Aston penned one of the most beautiful cars ever with the DB7… and then nicked the rear clusters from a 1991 Mazda 323 Fastback. What inspiration!
Q. What rear lights does the NOBLE M400 have?
A. FORD MONDEO
It wasn’t only the lights that Leicestershire’s favourite car builder borrowed from the Mk.1 Mondeo – a twin-turbo’d version of its Duratec V6 powers this bewinged monster.
Q. What rear lights does the ASTON MARTIN VIRAGE have?A. VW SCIROCCO
One is a well over engineered sports car that petrolheads around the world lusted after for years… and the other one is a soggy old Aston.
Q. What rear lights does the TVR GRIFFITH have?
A. CAVALIER MK.3
Our very own Slim has always lusted after one of these Brit bruisers that he used to have posters of on his bedroom wall. He wouldn’t mind a TVR either.
Q. What rear lights does the TVR CERBERA have?A. FORD FIESTA
There’s a bit of Dagenham’s finest in every early TVR Cerbera. Just think, if they’d used the Mk.3 Fiesta’s engine as well they wouldn’t break down so much.
