Fast Car’s Honda S2000 GT – Part 1

Fast Car’s Honda S2000 GT – Part 1

Posted by Glenn Rowswell on 1st December 2016

Say hello to our 2017 competition car, that’s right this car could be yours! But first, we need to modify it…

Fast Car's Honda S2000 GT

If you’re an avid reader of Fast Car, you’ll already know we love a Honda or two. In fact, every single one of us on the team has owned one at some point. Model wise we’ve had everything from a Civic EF, EG, EK and EP to a 3rd gen Prelude and a JDM DC2 ITR.

So, when it came to choosing this year’s competition car a Honda was an easy choice, as three things we can all agree on are they’re great fun to drive, very reliable and great to modify. Our only real issue was choosing what model. But, after many a late night down the pub our debate concluded we should buy either an EP3 or an FN2.

Our next step was finding one. So, our I started the search and as you would expect I found plenty of EP3s that came in under our budget and a few FN2s as well. But, I also found something else, something RWD, with two seats and no roof. Yep, you guessed it, the Honda S2000, which we previously thought would be over our £5k budget, well for a good condition one.

But, there’s an old saying in the car industry and that’s ‘roof goes down, price goes up’ when buying any rag-top in the summer, after all, that’s when everyone wants one. So obviously, that’s the exact opposite when it comes to buying in the winter.

With the above in play, this meant we managed to pick up this 2002 S2000 GT for just £5k, a full £1k cheaper than it was originally advertised because the owner didn’t want to be stuck trying to sell it over the winter. Bonus!

And we think we’ve got our hands on a great car. The car was previously owned by a Honda mechanic, has great full service history and very straight bodywork. It also came with a set of Toyo Proxes and a hard top (these along can cost £750+).

So what’s the plan? Well we don’t know yet, as we’ve only just picked up the car. The first thing we need to do is give the car a once over. So, we’re going to pop down to Ramp It Up, Bristol’s self-service garage and get it up the ramps for a quick check up. Until next time, Godspeed…
