It’s always a big moment in any build, wheels! And here’s what we’ve gone for…

Honda S2000 Side profile car

Here at Fast Car we’re very glass-half-full kinda guys, but this month we are literally brimming over the top because life is good, very good in fact. Why? Simple, show season is finally here, Japfest is not far away (at the time of writing this anyway), the sun is starting to shine and it’s not long until we can whip the top off the S2000. Also, we can start touring the shows where you, yes you, could get the chance to win this awesome car.

But before all that, we needed to make sure the S2000 was treated to some new wheels, as going to Japfest on standard rims would be sacrilege. As you can imagine, when it comes to wheels the choices in 5×114.3 are pretty vast. Style wise we knew we wanted to keep the wheels tuner/racer inspired, so the first thing we did was jump on the Rare Rims website and fire up their wheel simulator.

Honda S2000 Customisation

As you would expect there was plenty of choice, but when we saw the tough-looking, multispoke Rota Fighter, we fell in love instantly. Also, the bronze version works great against the Moon Rock grey Honda. Could it get any better? Yes! Because we then found out we could get a 9x17in wheel in an ET50 on the rear with little or no arch work (with the right tyres) and the same went for the front with a perfectly sized 8x17in an ET48. Whoop!

So without further ado, we got them ordered and they arrived the next morning. And like any real wheel lover, we went straight outside, jacked the car up and tried them on for size, and as Julian Pearcy and Ben Jordan at Rare Rims promised, they fitted perfectly. Not that we ever had any doubt, as when it comes to wheels, offset and fitment, their expertise is unrivalled. Boys, we salute you!

Honda S2000 Close-up wheels

Obviously we needed rubber as well, and as we’re impatient and wanted the wheels on ASAP, we jumped online to etyres and ordered a lovely set of Falken Ziex ZE-914s. And in no time at all a very nice man called Ben Halton was outside with his mobile tyre fitting van and we were in business. We just hope the competition winner loves the wheels and car as much as we do, if not we’ll happily have it back.

So what’s next? Well, hopefully lowering. In fact as we speak there’s a very special package from Bilstein’s HQ in Germany on its way to us. Let’s hope Deutsche Post get a move on, schnell, schnell!
