What do you listen to in the car? Halfords has searched Spotify data to find out what the top 10 most listened to songs in the car are. Some of these may surprise you.

Curious to discover the ultimate road trip soundtrack, Halfords has analysed Spotify data to reveal the songs and artists that are most listened to whilst driving.

The study involved analysing over 300,000 songs from playlists that included ‘car’, ‘driving’ and ‘road trip’ to show that ‘Sweet Home Alabama’ is the most popular driving song. Released in 1974 by American Southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd, the platinum-selling song was made famous by various movies including ‘Forrest Gump’, ‘Sweet Home Alabama’ and ‘Despicable Me’

The top ten songs are largely dominated by those in the classic ‘rock’ genre, although Miley Cyrus’ pop song ‘Party In The U.S.A.’ makes an appearance at number nine and is the only song by a female artist to make the cut. ‘Party In The U.S.A.’ is also the most recent song to feature alongside ‘Hey, Soul Sister’ by Train, both released in 2009.
