2013 Subaru WRX STi
With sorted suspension and wheels, we decided it was time to turn up the taps on our Pro-R Project STi and satisfy our never ending need for speed. Meanwhile, in other news, and tired of Jules getting lost all the time, we also pimped the audio with some proper nav magic…

As anyone who has glanced at the top shelf of the newsagent will tell you, it’s pretty much impossible to have too much of a good thing. That also sums up how we feel about the STi. Although the punchy delivery of the 300 horse motor was never less than impressive, a glance at the options list told us that we were only a dealer visit away from strapping another 40 angry ponies under the bonnet. And that always has to be a good idea!

As Subaru’s official tuning arm, Pro-R offers a 340 PS upgrade that ups the ante throughout the rev range, equipping the STi with more firepower than an Apache helicopter and the kind of whiplash acceleration that gets no-win-no-fee lawyers all hot under the collar. Thanks to it being an approved accessory, it’s all a doddle to fit, too.

So we sent our very own events guru Tom up to main dealers Europa in Sheffield to get it all fitted. To be honest, it was good to get him out from under our feet, and his social worker says it’s constructive for him to be out in the community with normal folk.

The 340 kit is properly complete and comes with a smart stainless steel sports exhaust which improves flow and reduces back pressure.

With this fitted and the new software uploaded and optimised, it was a simple case of handing us the keys and letting us take to the road. The Europa guys were superb and fitted everything neatly and quickly, to have us on our way before Tom had even started on his second round of biscuits in reception. He would’ve preferred to wait, if we’re honest.

On the road, the new power delivery is epic, with revs building much more quickly and the car feeling considerably faster than before. Which is a bit like saying, like The Saturdays, only fitter. It wasn’t exactly steady to start with!

To celebrate, we decided to visit the good people over at Holdcroft in Staffs to give our audio system a bit of a makeover. The standard unit in the Scoob was pretty good, but the chance to upgrade this to the all-singing, all-dancing Pioneer AVIC– F840BT seemed like a good move, probably because it was.

Not only does it look and sound a hell of a lot better, but the smart-looking and easy to use nav system means none of us have to put up with Jules’ amazingly bad sense of direction anymore. There is a downside to this though. None of us have got an excuse for being late to anything these days, so now we have to be honest and just say we’re very, very lazy.

Anyway, we think you’ll agree, that’s very much time and money well spent this month. There’s something more than a little special for you next time too!
