Modified VW Caddy TDi
Chris Jones’ modified VW Caddy TDi
As a personal trainer, Chris Jones is used to sacrificing blood, sweat and tears on the road to pushing people into better shape; seems he’s no different when it comes to crafting the perfect jawdropping German loader either.
You see, like many Dubs at the top of the game, it all comes down to the finer details, and this third generation Caddy on air ride is dripping with more tricks than a Paul Daniels’ variety performance.
The fitness fanatic hasn’t cut any corners in the build, trusting in the expertise of legendary custom creator Luke Massy at Plush Automotive to help carve out what is easily the best Caddy in the UK right now.
“Everything I do, I have to do properly. I always end up taking things to the extreme,” explains the VAG-nut, who
knows a van has to be slightly wild and a little impractical too if it is to claim scene-leading status like his current Spice Red beauty.
Chris only went to Plush after Players 4.0 in September last year to get the roof lining sorted, and it was from there that the project snowballed into the gloriously smooth and tidy van you see today. Chris explains, “I just went up to Luke at the show, handed him my keys and asked him to sort my van!”
A winter of tedious fettling passed before the van re-emerged in spring sporting fully chromed split Rotiforms and a retrimmed interior more fit for a royal wedding than a decorator’s dustsheets.
The Caddy was also tricked out with loads of subtle touches including Golf Mk.6 wing mirrors in place of the standard lopsided items, Touran door cards, a neatly shortened rear numberplate recess and scaffold unfriendly audio install in a raised back floor pan.
You’d think after all that hard work that Chris would be happy to just park up at shows and pick up awards, right? Well, you’ll be relieved to know he’s is cut from a finer cloth than that: “I’m looking forward to just driving it and enjoying it,” insists the Londoner. “It was built to use as a work van, but it may have gone past that now.” Either that, or he’s got to have the coolest work wagon in the world!
