Alex Elford’s modified Fiat Punto

Italian cars have never been known for their excellent build quality and superb reliability. In fact, feature car owner Alex Elford has had nothing but grief in the three years he’s owned his Italian hatch, yet here he is today with what is one of the UK’s finest Mk.2 Puntos.

Electrical gremlins, clutches, gearboxes and head gaskets – you name it, Alex will have had it, but beyond that has managed to build a pukka motor for not a lot of moolah and still kept the car usable as a daily driver. Being Alex’s first and only car it’s been through various transformations to get it to this stage. With a heavy influence from the cleaned scene, over the past year or so Alex was on a mission to go smoother and lower.

Now it stands proud with its expertly smoothed off bodywork by best mate Ray, a huge slam job courtesy of Rayvern who installed the hydraulic set-up, and its luxurious interior courtesy of Luke at Plush Automotive. A pretty fine combo if you ask me.

Alex has plans to change the car for next year, and it involves some major work under the bonnet, both cosmetic and mechanical. It’s just a shame Alex doesn’t have a lifetime membership with the AA, because we know he’s definitely going to need it.

Top 5 Punto Mods
1. Colour Scheme
Sometimes lairy paint isn’t the way to go. A nice classic colour scheme could actually be the future!

2. Hydraulics
When low just isn’t low enough, there’s nothing like a bit of juice. Jus' drop it!

3 Motorised Seat
Is it practical at all? Nope. Functional? Nope. Damn right cool as funk? Yep! Just a touch of a button and a leather trimmed rear bench glides forward to reveal an Audison LRX amp. Sweet.

4. Plush Automotive Interior
Dark red pepper red leather and black Alcantara details are the tits, trust and see the goodness.

5. Fit Missus
There’s no point building a sweet ride and not having a sweet missus to match. Nice work Alex.
