Pothole SOS
Students to the rescue with ‘high-vis’ potholes
We dunno about you lot, but were getting mighty fed up with the amount potholes on our roads of late.
Yes we know it’s due to the big freeze, but you know what we don’t care. Nope, what we care about is the local councils getting out there and fixing them.
You’ve had our council tax, and what ever else it is you charge us for, so get out there and sort ‘em. Or at least make them visible so we don’t go down them.
In the last week two project cars from FC Towers have had major wheel damage due to potholes. One them has damaged two alloys so bad that it’s now undriveable and needs both replacement alloys and tyres. Great eh?
Luckily though some clever students in Italy have come up with a short term solution by designing the ‘high-vis’ pothole. An idea that was uncovered by road maintenance campaign website, Potholes.co.uk.
They told us: “Domenico Diego and Cristina Corradini have designed the Street Safe Initiative, which comprises a brightly-coloured layer of asphalt a few inches beneath the surface of the road, which becomes visible when the road surface breaks up, making potholes easier to see and avoid.”
The design will be trialed later this a small town close to Milan, after which Diego plans to market the product across Europe.
We think it's a great idea. So councils get your money, or should that be our money out!
