Colin McRae Dies In Crash
Rally legend McRae in fatal helicopter accident
Colin McRae and son Johnny have died after being involved in a helicopter crash. The fatal accident happened this Saturday near Colin McRae’s home in Lanarkshire.
Investigating Strathclyde Police said no one could have survived the crash. Investigators are now searching the accident site for clues as to what may have caused the crash.
Chief Superintendent Tim Love of South Lanarkshire Division, said yesterday: “We believe that the group were just returning from a visit to the nearby village of Quarter around 1605 hours yesterday (Saturday), when it appears that the helicopter got into difficulty and crashed within the grounds of Mr McRae’s family home.”
Also on the Helicopter were Ben Porcelli and Graeme Duncan close friends of the McRae family.
Colin McRae was Britain's first ever rally world champion in 1995 with the Subaru WRC team and went onto drive for Ford, Citroen and Skoda. Colin’s death is a tragic loss to the motorsport fraternity.
A statement has been issued by Colin’s father, Jim McRae. He said: “It is with much sadness and regret that we have to make this statement. It is unbelievable that Colin and Johnny’s lives have been taken so prematurely and in such a tragic manner.”
He added: “We are thankful for the overwhelming number of messages of support we have received from all around the world. Colin was very much an inspiration and role model to motorsport fans the world over.”
Our thoughts go out to the McRae family and all involved. Those wishing to leave a message of condolence may do so here.
