Apparently, there is no reason for why we should be paying 10 pence per text message, and people are getting pissed off. So one mobile phone user started a campaign to try and change things.
Ewan McLeod is a guy who likes to get stuff done: He launched a website called Make Text Cheaper, because.. well.. Ah sod it, it's obvious: Ewan was sick of paying stupid money for sending text messages.
According to Ewan, text messaging costs the providers next to nothing, and we are getting fleeced when paying ten pence or more per text. "I used to send an absolute ton of messages. Hundreds of messages per day, some times", says Ewan. "I've felt that we all get a raw deal when it comes to texting. There is absolutely no reason why we should have to pay anything near 10 pence a text message"
Today, UK residents send 100 million text messages every day - that's 300 million quid per month of revenue, for a service that costs next to nothing to the mobile operators.
