EMMA UK NEWS

EMMA UK at L&J Audio 3rd-4th May 2008

At last it seems summer is here, and the fine weather graced us a treat us at Cannock for round 3 of the 2008 season.

Another key dealer event in the annual EMMA calendar, L&J’s proprietor, Lee Frost is a regular competitor who hoped a home advantage would help secure top spot in the Master up to 7 channel category.

The venue began to fill up at 9:00 and they just kept on coming. One of the best turnouts for an EMMA event yet, it was proper rammed! (Check out the vid here)

As has become traditional, the experienced classes ran on Saturday and once again Experienced Unlimited threw up the closest competition yet. And by the end of the day, the top two just could not be separated on either sound or install which we believe to be the first time this has happened in the world!

A call to “mission control” in Germany revealed that we had to give two first places and a third to Ian Edgars Beautiful Renault van. Paul Sleigh’s ubiquitous Honda and Kevin Hall’s improving Jeep, respectively. Ian had travelled all the way from Dumfries, proving a worthy if unexpected joint winner of round three.

Other highlights from the Saturday included an experienced 3-channel winner without a driving license, experienced 5-channel competitor with 6 Rainbow co-axials mounted across the dash and a naked man on a pedal car. Nice.

By Sunday, the mood was overcast. Partly as a result of the fantastic party on the Saturday night but mainly due to the rain, dam British weather! A decision was made to judge sound only due to the inclement weather. We had the right judges for the job with Carlo Corbin,  Jas Suman and Lee Frost accompanied by Mark Turner, Turners Alarms & Audio, Ben Murray from the Sound Gallery and our very own little Kenny.

Competition in Advanced and Master Classes is getting tighter all the time.  Lee Frost was hoping his home advantage and a good deal of work since ISTS would secure him the points, but he hadn’t reckoned on the incredible support provided to Team DLS by the Swedish technical experts. By installing a pair of specially reworked mid range drivers, Nigel Skingley squeaked the competition by 2 points. Although visibly “gutted” Lee was quick to shake hands with his fellow competitor, reinforcing the sporting and friendly atmosphere of EMMA competition. The UK’s Super Cup Entry, belonging to Kim Lanigan was third whilst ESPL saw six entries.

Full results and league tables can all be viewed here.

A big thank you to all involved in the event, the sponsors and especially, the competitors.
